LOSING SKID HITS SIX STRAIGHT FOR BLUEJAY SOFTBALL TEAM
ELMHURST, ILL., March 24, 2004--After winning their first two games of the season, the Elmhurst College softball team has dropped six straight contests after falling to Northwest Christian College and Cal.-State Hayward atthe 2004 Sun West Tournament. CSU-HAYWARD 8, ELMHURST 1 - CSU-Hayward scored in the first three innings, taking a quick 6-0 lead that they would never relinquish. The Bluejays struggled defensively, committing a season-high five errors in the contest, leading to three unearned runs. CSU-Hayward also jumped on Bluejay starter Katie Gervase (Glen Ellyn-Glenbard West), pounding out 16 hits in seven innings. Gervase was charged with five earned runs while walking two batters and collecting two strikeouts. The Bluejays were limited to just three total hits, with Mary Patterson (Mount Prospect-Maine East) collecting the team's lone RBI of the game. NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN 7, ELMHURST 3- Elmhurst jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning after Gervase sinngled in a pair of runs to give Elmhurst a 2-0 lead. Northwest Christian would strike back in the fourth inning, scoring five runs of Bluejay starter Jessica Kalal (Lisle-H.S.). Kalal surrendered six hits over five innings while being charged with three earned runs. Elmhurst got a run back in the top of the sixth when Jill Kroll (Palos Park-Stagg) singled in Gervase to cut the lead to 5-3. Northwest Christian tacked on two runs in the sixth inning after banging out three hits on Danielle White (Bolingbrook-Naperville) in one inning of work. Gervase led the Bluejay offense with a perfect 3-for-3 day with a run scored and two RBI. |
