BENEDICTINE DOWNS BLUEJAY SOFTBALL TEAM ELMHURST, ILL., March 28, 2004--The Elmhurst College softball team dropped to 3-8-1 after falling in game one of a doubleheader to Benedictine University by a score of 8-7. The second game was called due to rain after five innings and finished a 5-5 tie. BENEDICTINE 8, ELMHURST 7 (Game One)- The Bluejays rallied from three runs down in the top of the sixth to tie the score at 7-7, but Benedictine reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the same inning. Jennifer Cromer (Carol Stream-Glenbard North) led the Blueajys with a 2-for-4 day at the plate while Jill Kroll (Palos Park-Stagg) added a pair of hits and drove in two runs. Danielle White (Bolingbrook-Naperville Central) took the loss in relief, allowing one run on one hit and a walk. Katie Gervase (Glen Ellyn-Glenbard West) made the start for the Bluejays and was charge with five earned runs on seven hits. BENEDICTINE 5- ELMHURST 5 - The second game of the doubleheader was called after five innings due to rain and ended in a 5-5 tie. Benedictine lead 4-1 before the Bluejays scored four times in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead. The Lady Eagles answered back and scored the tying run in the bottom of the inning to come away with the tie. Cromer, Hillary Pietrucha (Orland Hills-Andrew) and Erin Jahnke (Saline, Mich.-H.S.) each recorded two hits and scored a run in the game. Jessica Kalal (Lisle-H.S.) pitched five innings and allowed four earned runs for the Bluejays. |
