BLUEJAY SOFTBALL TEAM SWEEPS CONCORDIA
ELMHURST, ILL., March 30, 2004--The Elmhurst College softball team swept a doubleheader from Concordia University to improve to 5-8-1 on the season. The Bluejays downed the Cougars 8-0 in game one and took game two by a 4-3 final score. ELMHURST 8, CONCORDIA 0 (Game One)- The Bluejays used a seven run second inning to take a commanding lead in the ball game. Elmhurst added a run in the fifth inning to win by a final of 8-0 after the eight run mercy rule. Elmhurst took advantage of seven Concordia walks to score the majority of their runs. Jill Kroll (Palos Park-Stagg) finished 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI on the day. Katie Gervase (Glen Ellyn-Glenbard West) improved to 2-5 on the season after pitching a complete game three-hit shutout. Gervase fanned four batters while not issuing a walk. ELMHURST 5, CONCORDIA 4 (Game Two)- The Bluejays held off a late rally from Concordia to come away with the 4-3 win. Elmhurst led 4-1 going into the top of the seventh inning where Concordia scored twice but couldn't score the tying run. Hillary Pietrucha (Orland Hills-Andrew) and Erin Jahnke (Saline, Mich.-H.S.) each recorded two hits in the win. Jahnke scored two runs, while Pietrucha also crossed home plate. Kara Kimler (Williamsfield-H.S.) drove in a run for the Bluejays. Jessica Kalal (Lisle-H.S.) pitched five innings and allowed just one earned run while scattering five hits to earn her second win of the season. Danielle White (Bolingbrook-Naperville Central) notched a save by pitching the sixth and seventh innings. |
