BLUEJAY SOFTBALL TEAM SPLITS CCIW DOUBLEHEADER WITH CARTHAGE
ELMHURST, ILL., April 3, 2004--The Elmhurst College softball team split a doubleheader with Carthage College to improve 6-9-1 on the season. Elmhurst dropped game one 1-0 but rebounded to take game two 2-1. CARTHAGE 1, ELMHURST 0 (Game One)- The Bluejay bats were quieted by Carthage. Elmhurst was limited to just three hits in a classic pitcher's dual. Katie Gervase (Glen Ellyn-Glenbard West) pitched a great game for Elmhurst in taking the hard-luck loss. Gervase did not allow an earned run and held Carthage to just two hits in the loss. A two-out error by Elmhurst in the bottom of the sixth, opened the door for the Carthage to take the lead. ELMHURST 2, CARTHAGE 1(Game Two)- The Bluejays rebounded to take game two by a 2-1 final. Carthage led 1-0 heading into the sixth inning. A leadoff single followed by a sacrifice bunt and a Carthage error put runners and second and third for the Bluejays. Gervase singled to right field to drive in the tying and game winning runs. Jessica Kalal (Lisle-H.S.) picked up the win, scattering four hits over seven innings. She walked three batters and struck out four in the win. The Bluejays will host Millikin University on Sunday, April 4, at 12:00 p.m. |
