BLUEJAY SOFTBALL TEAM SWEPT BY NORTH CENTRAL

ELMHURST, ILL., April 6, 2004--The Elmhurst College softball was swept by North Central College in a doubleheader to fall to 1-5 in the CCIW. North Central took game one 12-0 and won game two 4-2.

NORTH CENTRAL 12, ELMHURST 0 (Game One)- The Bluejays fell behind quickly as North Central scored four times in the first inning taking advantage of two hit batsmen and a Bluejay error while getting just two hits. The Cardinals tacked on three runs in the third inning and pushed five runs through in the fourth inning to take a 12-0 lead.

Katie Gervase (Glen Ellyn-Glenbard West) pitched three innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs while walking two batters and striking out one while taking the loss.

Danielle White (Bolingbrook-Naperville Central) pitched two inning and allowed three earned runs.

North Central tallied eight hits and did not commit an error while Elmhurs was limited to just two hits and made three errors in the field.

NORTH CENTRAL 4, ELMHURST 2 (Game Two)- North Central took the lead in the first inning on a RBI groundout and added a run in the second inning on a solo homer by Jackie Kay. Elmhurst closed to within a run at 2-1 in the third inning when Gervase singles to plate Jenn Cromer (Carol Stream-Glenbard North). North Central added a run in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-1 advantage.

The Bluejays cut the lead to 4-2 in the sixth inning when Cromer drew a bases loaded walk.

Jessica Kalal (Lisle-H.S.) suffered the loss, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing seven hits and four earned runs.

The Bluejays will host Illinois Wesleyan University on Friday, at 3:00 p.m.
