BLUEJAY SOFTBALL TEAM SWEEPS NON-CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER FROM LAKLELAND

ELMHURST, ILL., April 17, 2004--The Elmhurst College softball team improved to 13-16-1 overall after sweeping a non-conference doubleheader at Lakeland College. The Bluejays won game one 3-2 and blanked Lakeland in game two, winning 5-0.

ELMHURST 3, LAKELAND 2 (Game One)- The Bluejays took game one by a 3-2 final score. Kristen Hipp (Tipp City-Tippecanoe) and Jill Kroll (Palos Park-Stagg) each had RBI singles inn the game to lead the Bluejays.

Jessica Kalal (Lisle-H.S.) picked up the win for the Bluejays. She went the distance, pitching seven innings and scattering six hits while allowing just one earned run. She walked a batter and fanned two.

ELMHURST 5, LAKELAND 0 (Game Two)- Elmhurst cruised to the win behind the combination of the Bluejays' 11 hits and Katie Gervase's (Glen Ellyn-Glenbard West) pitching.

The Bluejays banged out 11 hits over seven innings en route to the win. RBI singles from Kalal, Gervase, Danielle White (Bolingbrook-Naperville Central) and Jenny Winters (Gurnee-Warren) paced the Bluejay offense. Jill Kroll finished 3-for-4 on the day with a pair of doubles as well.

Gervase pitched her second shutout of the week, holding Lakeland to just six hits over the seven innings. She did not walk a batter and struck out nine along the way.
