BLUEJAY SOFTBALL TEAM PICKS UP TWO WINS FROM NORTH PARK

ELMHURST, ILL., April 27, 2004--The Elmhurst College softball team improved to 15-20-1 overall and 5-9 in the CCIW after sweeping a CCIW doubleheader from North Park University. The Bluejays took game one 6-3 and won game two 11-0.

ELMHURST 6, NORTH PARK 3 (Game One)- The Bluejays jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held off a late rally from North Park to win game one 6-3.

The Bluejays got on the board in the first inning with a Christy Gorecki (Oak Forest-Richards) RBI single. A passed ball scored Jessica Kalal (Lisle-H.S.) in the second inning to give Elmhurst a 2-0 lead. A sacrifice fly from Kristen Hipp (Tipp City-Tippecanoe) in the fourth inning put the Bluejays up 3-0. Danielle White (Bolingbrook-Naperville Central) drove in two runs with a base hit in the fifth inning and the Bluejays scored their final run in the sixth inning when Jill Kroll (Palos Park-Stagg) walked with the bases loaded to force in a run.

Katie Gervase (Glen Ellyn-Glenbard West) led the hit parade with a 3-for-4 day at the plate while scoring two runs.

Kalal scored the win for Elmhurst, pitching a complete game and allowing three earned runs on eight hits. She walked one batter and struck out four.

ELMHURST 11, NORTH PARK 0 (Game Two)- The Bluejays used a nine-run second inning to jump past North Park to win 11-0.

Hillary Pietrucha (Orland Hills-Andrew) started the scoring in the first inning with a solo homer to right center field. An RBI double from Gorecki made it 2-0 Elmhurst.

The Bluejays exploded in the second innning for nine runs. RBI hits from Kalal, Gorecki, Jennifer Cromer (Carol Stream-Glenbard North), Jenny Winters (Gurnee-Warren) and White paced the Bluejays in the inning.

Gervase picked up the win for the Bluejays, pitching all five innings and allowing only four hits. She fanned four battes while not issuing a walk.

The Bluejays close out the 2004 season at Trinity Christian College on Wednesday, April 28.
