ELMHURST COLLEGE'S KATIE GERVASE NAMED TO ALL-CCIW SOFTBALL TEAM

ELMHURST, Ill. May 4, 2004 -- Katie Gervase (Glen Ellyn-Glenbard West) has been selected to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) all-conference first team. Gervase made the squad as an at-large selection. She previously earned second-team all-conference honors last season.

Gervase led the Bluejays at the plate this season with a team-high .349 batting average. She finished second on the team in runs batted in with 16. As a pitcher, she posted a 6-10 record with a team-low 2.55 ERA. She also struck out a team-high 65 batters while pitching five shutouts. Earlier this season she was selected as a CCIW Player of the Week after posting a 3-0 record with a pair of shutouts and a no-hitter over Wheaton College.

Gervase earned second-team All-CCIW honors last season as a utility player. She posted a .333 batting average while leading the team in doubles (eight) and RBI (28). As a pitcher, she posted a 9-12 record with a 3.06 ERA in 126 innings pitched. She established a new single-season record at Elmhurst by fanning 85 batters in 2003. In just three seasons she established a new school record for strikeouts in a career by fanning 211 batters. She ranks second in school history in shutouts (eight) and appearances (66), while ranking third in innings pitched (349.2) and fifth in wins (21),

A graduate of Glenbard West High School, Gervase was a two-time all-conference selection as a pitcher. She also earned varsity letters in volleyball.

Gervase is the daughter of Bruce and Judy Gervase of Glen Ellyn.
