ELMHURST COLLEGE'S KATIE GERVASE NAMED CCIW "PITCHER OF THE WEEK" ELMHURST, Ill. April 20, 2004 -- Katie Gervase (Glen Ellyn-Glenbard West) has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's (CCIW) "Pitcher of the Week" for helping to guide the Bluejays to a 5-1 record last week. She shares the "Pitcher of the Week" honor with Alissa Shaner of Augustana College Gervase had a perfect 3-0 record while helping the Bluejays improve to 13-16-1 on the season. On Tuesday (April 13), she threw a no-hit shutout in Elmhurst's 12-0 win over Wheaton College. In a 6-1 win over Marian College on Friday (April 16) she pitched a complete game and allowed just five hits while striking out seven. She capped the week with a six-hit shutout over Lakeland College (April 17), fanning nine and not issuing a walk. For the week she pitched 19 innings and allowed just 11 hits and three walks while striking out 18 and posted an ERA of 0.37. Gervase earned second-team All-CCIW honors last season as a utility player. She posted a .333 batting average while leading the team in doubles (eight) and RBI (28). As a pitcher, she posted a 9-12 record with a 3.06 ERA in 126 innings pitched. She established a new single-season record at Elmhurst by fanning 85 batters in 2003. In two and a half years she ranks among the school's all-time leaders in innings pitched, strikeouts and complete games. A graduate of Glenbard West High School, Gervase was a two-time all-conference selection as a pitcher. She also earned varsity letters in volleyball. Gervase is the daughter of Bruce and Judy Gervase of Glen Ellyn. The Bluejays continue CCIW play this week when they travel to Augustana College on Friday, April 23. |
