ELMHURST POSTS 3-1 MARK AT LAKELAND TOURNAMENT

ELMHURST, ILL., September 6, 2003-- The Elmhurst College women's volleyball team continued their solid start to the 2003 season by posting a 3-1 record at the Lakeland College Tournament this weekend (September 5-6).

LAKELAND INVITATIONAL DAY ONE (September 5)- The Bluejays won both of their opening tournament matches by defeating Aurora University (30-17, 30-28, 30-17) and Lakeland College (30-16, 30-17, 30-23).

Aurora --Elmhurst zipped through the match winning 3-0 over the Spartans. Lindsey Mieling (Batavia-H.S.) led the charge, finishing with seven kills and three blocks. Lisa Denman (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin-Coffman) and Johanna Anderson (Louisville, Ky.-Ballard) each added five kills in the win. Nicole Carlson (Forreston-H.S.) pounded down three kills and dug up seven kill attempts for Elmhurst while Regina Morrone (Orland Park-A.A. Stagg) finished with 12 assists and a whopping 10 service aces.

Lakeland -Elmhurst improved to 2-0 at the tournament with a 3-0 win over the tournament host. Carlson finished with a team-high 14 kills and 17 digs, while Denman added 11 kills and seven digs in the win. Christy Barone (Addison-Addison Trail) served up 12 assists, while Morrone tallied 11 assists and four service aces.

LAKELAND INVITATIONAL DAY TWO (September 6)-The Bluejays won the opening match of the second day, defeating St. Norbert College 30-24, 40-19, 30-24) in a rematch of last year's NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament semi-final. The Bluejays lost their final match of the tournament in a five-game marathon to the #11 ranked University of Wisconsin-River Falls (21-30, 16-30, 30-24, 30-17, 14-16).

St. Norbert -Elmhurst breezed through St. Norbert after defeating them in five games in last year's NCAA Tournament. Carlson turned in a 10-kill, 18-dig performance while Denman added eight kills and 15 digs. Morrone tallied 23 assists and four aces while Mieling added a team-high five blocks.

UW-River Falls -The Bluejays lost the tournament title in a five-game marathon match to UW-River Falls. Mieling turned in a solid performance finishing with a team-high 14 kills and 14 blocks. Carlson and Denman each finished with 11 kills while Anderson totaled 13 blocks in the loss. Morrone dished out 19 assists and served four aces, while Barone tallied 19 assists. Jessica Sutherland (Shelbyville-H.S.) led the team in digs with 21.

The Bluejays, ranked #6 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association latest poll, host Lake Forest College on September 9 at 7:00 p.m.
