BLUEJAYS WIN ELMHURST INVITE; CARLSON & DENMAN NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT SQUAD

ELMHURST, ILL., September 20, 2003-- The Elmhurst College women's volleyball team ran their winning streak to six consecutive matches by winning the Elmhurst College Invitational. The Bluejays defeated the Kalamazoo College 30-21, 30-27, 32-30 and then downed Calvin College 30-24, 30-26, 30-20 in the tournament's championship match. Both Nicole Carlson (Forreston-H.S.) and Lisa Denman (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin-Coffman) were named to the all-tournament team for their outstanding play over the span of the four-match tournament.

Kalamazoo --Elmhurst won their third match of the tournament with the 3-0 win over Kalamazoo College. Becky Puccini (Carol Stream-Glenbard North) powered the Bluejays to the win with a 12-kill, two-block performance. Denman added 11 kills, 15 digs and three aces in the win, while Carlson totaled six kills, 22 digs and three aces. Regina Morrone (Orland Park-A.A. Stagg) led the team in assists with 24, while Christy Barone (Addison-Addison Trail) added 19 assists. Katie Bequette added 12 digs and Johanna Anderson (Louisville, Ky.-Ballard) added two blocks.

Calvin -The Bluejays won their sixth consecutive match by a 3-0 score, knocking off Calvin College in the tournament's championship match. Puccini led the team in kills (12) and blocks (four) while Carly Bearwald (Northbrook-Glenbrook North) pounded down nine kills in the win. Denman and Carlson each finished with eight kills. Denman added 11 digs while Carlson totaled three aces. Morrone dished out 20 assists, served two aces and dug up 14 kill attempts. Barone led the team in assists with 20, while Katie Bequette (Staunton-H.S.) led the team in digs with 18. Anderson added four blocks and three aces in the victory.

The Bluejays, ranked #7 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association latest poll, will continue their quest for a fourth straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) volleyball title when they play at Millikin University on Tuesday, September 23, at 7:30 p.m.
