BLUEJAYS IMPROVE TO 2-0 IN LEAGUE PLAY WITH WIN OVER MILLIKIN

DECATUR, ILL., September 23, 2003-- The quest for a fourth consecutive College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Volleyball title continued for Elmhurst College, as the Bluejays defeated the Big Blue of Millikin University 3-1 (16-30, 30-26, 30-22, 30-28) to improve to 2-0 in league play.

The Bluejays struggled out of the gate, losing the first game to Millikin 16-30. It was the first time Elmhurst had lost a game in seven matches. The Bluejays quickly bounced back to win the next three games to down the Big Blue.

Lisa Denman (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin-Coffman) and Nicole Carslon (Forreston-H.S.) both continued their solid play on the outside. Denman led the team with 18 kills and added 15 digs, an ace and a block in the win. Carlson pounded down 12 kills while turning in a match-high 35 digs. She also added two blocks and an ace. Carly Bearwald (Northbrook-Glenbrook North) tallied nine fills and three blocks in the win. Regina Morrone (Orland Park-A.A. Stagg) led the team in assists with 25, while Christy Barone (Addison-Addison Trail) added 17 assists. Lindsey Mieling (Batavia-H.S.) totaled five kills and led the team in blocks with 4.

The Bluejays, ranked #7 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association latest poll, will play at the Cal.State-Hayward "Wild West Shootout" on September 26-27.
