BLUEJAYS MOVE TO 15-2 WITH PAIR OF WINS AT WILD WEST SHOOT-OUT

ELMHURST, ILL., September 26, 2003-- The Elmhurst College volleyball team ran its winning streak to nine straight matches by winning a pair of matches at the "Wild West Shoot-Out" at Cal.-State-Hayward.

The Bluejays began the tournament by defeating Gallaudet University 35-33, 30-27, 30-22 and then closed the day by downing U.C. Santa Cruz 30-24, 30-24, 30-19.

Gallaudet-Nicole Carlson (Forreston) led the way with a eight kills while Lisa Denman (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin-Coffman) finished with seven kills. Johanna Anderson (Louisville, Ky.-Ballard) added six kills in the win. Regina Morrone (Orland Park-A.A. Stagg) led the team in assists and aces, finishing with 21 and three, respectively.

U.C. Santa Cruz- Elmhurst won their second match of the tournament by downing U.C. Santa Cruz 3-0. Denman led the charge, pounding down 16 kills and digging up 16 kill attempts. Carly Bearwald (Northbrook-Glenbrook North) added nine kills, while Anderson finished with eight. Christy Barone (Addison-Addison Trail) led the team in assists with 22, while Marrone added 18 assists and two aces. Carlson added three aces in the win. Lindsey Mieling (Batavia-H.S.) added seven kills for the Bluejays.

The eighth ranked Bluejays will have their work cut out for themselves on day two of the tournament. Elmhurst will begin the day, playing the fifth ranked University of LaVerne and conclude the tournament with the host school, CSU-Hayward, currently ranked 14th in the nation.
