Augustana Boxscore

ELMHURST, ILL., October 1, 2003-- The Elmhurst College volleyball team's quest for a fourth straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin title hit a snag today, as the Bluejays were upended by Augustana College 30-27, 30-22, 20-30, 23-30,17-15.

Elmhurst struggled in the early portion of the match dropping both games one and two. The Bluejays rebounded to win games three and four and force a deciding game five. The two teams battled back and forth with neither team able to pull away in the fifth game. Elmhurst actually led 13-12, but Augustana proceeded to win five of the final seven points to come away with the upset victory. The loss drops Elmhurst to 16-5 overall and 3-1 in the CCIW. It was Elmhurst's first loss to a CCIW team since the Bluejays were defeated, coincidentally enough, by Augustana during the 2001 season. The Bluejays had won 25 consecutive conference matches until this loss.

Lisa Denman led the Bluejays with 15 kills and 17 digs while Carly Bearwald (Northbrook-Glenbrook North) added 13 kills in the loss. Nicole Carlson (Forrreston-H.S.) finished with 10 kills, 29 digs and six blocks. Regina Morrone (Orland Park-A.A. Stagg) led the team in assists and aces, finishing with 26 and four, respectively. Christy Barone (Addison-Addison Trail) totaled 21 assists while Katie Bequette (Staunton-H.S.) Finished with 19 digs. Kelly Cusack (Bridgeview-Argo) added six blocks in the loss.

Elmhurst (16-5, 3-1 CCIW) will look to rebound when they travel to North Central College next Tuesday, October 7, to face the Cardinals at 7:30 p.m.
