ELMHURST, ILL., October
1, 2003-- The Elmhurst College volleyball team's quest for a fourth
straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin title hit a
snag today, as the Bluejays were upended by Augustana College 30-27,
30-22, 20-30, 23-30,17-15.
Elmhurst struggled in the early portion of the match
dropping both games one and two. The Bluejays rebounded to win games
three and four and force a deciding game five. The two teams battled
back and forth with neither team able to pull away in the fifth game.
Elmhurst actually led 13-12, but Augustana proceeded to win five of
the final seven points to come away with the upset victory. The loss
drops Elmhurst to 16-5 overall and 3-1 in the CCIW. It was Elmhurst's
first loss to a CCIW team since the Bluejays were defeated, coincidentally
enough, by Augustana during the 2001 season. The Bluejays had won
25 consecutive conference matches until this loss.

digs while Carly Bearwald (Northbrook-Glenbrook North) added 13 kills
