BLUEJAYS POST 1-3 MARK AT WITTENBERG TOURNAMENT

ELMHURST, ILL., October 11, 2003-- The Bluejay Volleyball team struggled at the Wittenberg University National Tournament against some of the nation's best teams. Elmhurst dropped three straight matches before snapping their five-game losing streak with a win over Muskingum.

BALDWIN-WALLACE 3, ELMHURST 2 (October 10) - Elmhurst dropped their third straight five-game marathon match falling 28-30, 26-30, 30-20, 30-23, 16-14. Nicole Carlson (Forreston-H.S.) led the way with 14 kills and 12 digs while Lisa Denman (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin-Coffman) finished with 12 kills and 20 digs. Carly Bearwald (Northbrook-Glenbrook North) pounded down 13 kills while Lindsey Mieling (Batavia-H.S.) added 10 kills in the loss. Regina Morrone (Orland Park-A.A. Stagg)led the team in assists and aces, finishing with 33 and five, respectively. Kelly Cusack (Bridgeview-Argo) led the team in blocks with five, while Katie Bequette (Staunton-H.S.) contributed 18 digs.

MT. ST. JOSEPH 3, ELMHURST 0 (October 10) - The Bluejays dropped to 0-2 at the tournament in a 21-30, 22-30, 22-30 loss to Mt. St. Joseph. Carlson finished with seven kills and 11 digs to lead the Bluejays. Christy Barone (Addison-Addison Trail) led the team in assists with 12, while Bequette finished with 16 digs.

WITTENBERG 3, ELMHURST 0 (October 11) - The Bluejays' losing streak reached five, with an 18-30, 28-30, 21-30 loss to the tournament host, Wittenberg University. Carlson led the way with eight kills. Morrone and Barone each finished with 12 assists, while Bequette led the team in digs with 11.

ELMHURST 3, MUSKINGUM 2 (October 11) - The Bluejays fell behind 2-0 but rebounded to defeat Muskingum 24-30, 25-30, 30-16, 30-20, 15-5. Bearwald led the comeback with 15 kills while Carlson pounded down 13 kills and recorded 17 digs in the win. Mieling added 11 kills and five blocks for the Bluejays. Morrone dished out 35 assists for the Bluejays while Bequette dug up a team-high 28 kill attempts.
