BLUEJAYS WIN ALL THREE MATCHES AT ELMHURST INVITATIONAL

ELMHURST, ILL., October
18, 2003-- The Elmhurst College volleyball team won their fifth consecutive
match to improve to 21-9 overall by winning all three matches at the
Elmhurst College Invitational.
Maranatha Baptist Bible - The Bluejays quickly
won their opening match of the tournament by defeating Maranatha 30-21,
30-22, 30-13. Carly Bearwald (Northbrook-Glenbrook North), Lisa Denman
(Dublin, Ohio/Dublin-Coffman), Nicole Carlson (Forreston-H.S.) and
Lindsey Mieling (Batavia-H.S.) all finished with eight kills in the
win. Carlson added 10 digs, three aces and five blocks while Denman
added 13 digs. Regina Morrone (Orland Park-A.A. Stagg) finished with
18 assists and four aces while Christy Barone (Addison-Addison Trail)
led the team in in assists with 19.
Dominican - Elmhurst improved to 2-0 in the
tournament by handling Dominican 30-16, 30-22, 30-28. Carlson powered
the way to the win with a 13-kill, 12-dig, four-block performance..
Bearwald and Denman each finished with seven kills while Denman added
12 digs. Kelly Cusack (Bridgeview-Argo), Becky Puccini (Carol Stream-Glenbard
North) and Mieling all finished with six kills. Mieling added four
blocks while Cusack added three blocks). Puccini led the team in service
aces, totaling six. Barone led the team in assists with 19 while Katie
Bequette (Staunton-H.S.) led the team in digs with 14 digs. Morrone
finished with 14 assists and six aces.
Dubuque - Elmhurst ran its win streak to five
straight matches by downing Dubuque 30-21, 30-23, 30-21. Denman led
the charge with 16 kills, 15 digs, four aces and three blocks. Bearwald
pounded down nine kills in the win while Carlson finished with five
kills. Mieling led the team in blocks, finishing with four while Bequette
tallied 13 digs. Morrone led the way in assists, finishing with 24.
Elmhurst (21-9, 4-2 CCIW) will attempt to keep their
quest for a fourth straight CCIW title alive when they travel to Illinois
Wesleyan University on Tuesday, October 21st at 7:30 p.m.
