Web-Based Course Projects: Spring 2000
English Department Home
Page
Andrea Cipcich and Laura Kuehn, teachers at West Chicago Community High School, revised
their department's web site "in order to appeal to an already existing audience,
teachers, and to appeal to parents and students as well." In order to
better meet the needs of multiple audiences, Andrea and Laura reorganized the site's
structure, added links to writing-related sites, edited lengthy content, and added
informative graphics (such as a group photo of teachers).
NASS "Back to Health Week"
Phyllis Anderson, Director of Marketing for the North American Spine Society (NASS),
developed this site "as part of a national campaign. . . to raise awareness of the
magnitude of the impact of back pain and to educate individuals on prevention
techniques." The site supports the "Back to Health Week"
campaign by educating the public and promoting awareness of the organization among medical
professionals. The design of the site reinforces the NASS's corporate identity
through the use of graphics and color.
Watercolors by Donald DeDore
Gina Egeland and Vicki Dreger created this site to showcase the work of a local artist and
to enhance his professional identity. This online gallery consists of nineteen
digital reproductions, categorized into four subject categories. The site uses
"thumbnail" graphics and minimalist design, to optimize loading time and
highlight the artworks.
ACCP Site: Membership
For her web-based course project, Kathy Jewett conducted a usability study of the American
Academy of Chest Physician's (ACCP) web site. After her analysis of user logs showed
low traffic to the ACCP's "Membership" pages, Kathy conducted user tests (e.g.,
a card sort test, scenario-based test, and user evaluation form) to assess the usability
and functionality of these pages. Kathy revised the content, navigation, and design
of the Membership pages to better promote the benefits of membership and reinforce the
organization's clinical identity.
