A student student interested in a career as a secondary school chemistry
teacher should maintain close contact with both the Chemistry
and Education Departments to assure completion of major requirements and
requirements for teacher certification by the State of Illinois.

The State of Illinois has identified the chemistry major as a discipline that requires
a second teaching field. Typical fields are physics, biology and general
science. The Department of Education can advise further on this requirement.
