Only two questions are required for Topic 13 on-line discussion. For the second Question, try to relate all three parts of the question - select a superfund site, select a problem chemical at that site, and select a method to treat that chemical (if possible).
2. On-line Issue
6B Discussion:
This issue may be completed over a two week period
through May 21 .
"A Civil Action" is a book by Jonanthan Harr, and subsequent Hollywood movie of the same name, which documents a court trial in Woburn, Massachusetts. W.R. Grace Company and several other companies were accused of contaminating the drinking water, which in turn lead to a cluster of leukemia cancers. In this case study, we will look at a series of documents about the trial, subsequent studies, and the EPA Superfund Cleanup to determine the answer to the main debate question. After researching the the original trial and subsequent studies, you will be the jury for the retrial of this case. There are many documents in this case study, since it will be quite time consuming to read all of them, each student will concentrate on one or more and summarize the main points for the other students. Then the other students can read the summaries for their decision about the trial.
Please look in the issue to find your specific assignment. for round one of the discussion. It is important that everyone get online early in the first week to get your research completed so that everyone can read your work to help decide on the final question. Some students have already worked ahead on this and even have done more research to be able to answer the main question 9 ahead of time.
3. On-Line Course Evaluation (this is due on Friday, May 23): I realize that you have many things to complete, but I would certainly appreciate it if you took some time to reflect upon the on-line course so that I may improve it for others, as well as, explain the pros and cons to my faculty colleagues.
Your grade will not be influenced by any comments that you may make.
