Minutes of FDC meeting 1S on Feb. 22, 2002 1871 Room of Frick Center. In attendance: Andrew Das, Bill Hirstein, Scott LaMorte, Helga Noice, Michael Savage, Susan Swords Steffen, Earl Swallow, Therese Wehman The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. Earl Swallow informed the committee that we were able to support all of the Fall travel grant applicants except those who made two applications. Fourteen grants were awarded totalling $3977.92 Criteria for competitively judging future grants were discussed. There are a total of 16 Spring travel grant applications, totalling $5145. Given that this amount of money is available, the committee voted unanimously to award grants to all applicants. Therese Wehman and Susan Swords Steffens agreed to work together on a reception planned for March 15 at 4:15 in the library for faculty who have recently published books. The type of award to be presented was discussed. Michael Lindberg was sent to one of the Midwest faculty seminars, Kale Haywood was unable to attend her session because the date was changed. Lynn Hill, Mary Lou Stewart, and Les Caltveldt will all be able to attend the media aesthetics session, provided the organizers allow a third attendee. The FDC will support travel by Jane Jegerski to Cuba with an International Education grant. The FDC will also support travel by Judy Grimes to Japan. The FDC will ask Wally Lagerway to assist in funding this travel, and the FDC may provide additional funding to Judy if it's available. Kale Haywood will attend the Berlin-Prague seminar. Andrew Das and Bill Hirstein will handle the interviews of groups of students who nominate their professors for the President's award for excellence in teaching. Deb Marzullo will do the scheduling. The award has been thoroughly advertised, in the Leader, and on campus TV. Earl Swallow will place two additional ads in the Leader, at $50 each. Earl Swallow will attend a meeting of the alumni association to discuss criteria for awarding their grants. Options for different criteria were discussed.
