Minutes of FDC meeting on April 19, 2002 1871 Room of Fricke Center. In attendance: Marie Baehr, Larry Carroll, Andrew Das, Bill Hirstein, Scott LaMorte, Helga Noice, Earl Swallow The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. This year's Lilly conference will take place Nov. 21-24 at Miami of Ohio. The committee should determine the list of attendees by sometime in May. Larry Carroll suggested that there be a forum where the attendees would share what they learned. This met with general approval. Marie Baehr suggested that a good venue for such a forum would be the Fridays "Teaching and Learning" program. Marie also suggested that the awardees present at an admissions event. Larry further suggested that admissions events for honors students and/or admitted students would also be a good forum for such presentations. Or, the Research/Scholarship Forum might also be a good place for presentations by various awardees. After tabulation of the individual choices of committee members, the committee decided to award the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching to Michelle Applebee and David Lingbergh. There was general assent that the Psychology Dept. and the CSIS proposal by Drs. Krause and Ghane were the favorites for receiving the departmental initiative awards. Committee member Bill Hirstein recused himself for the discussion of awards of summer research grants, as he was an applicant this year. wsh
