Minutes of FDC meeting (6F) on Nov. 29, 2001 1871 Room of Frick Center. In attendance: Andrew Das, Heather Hall, Bill Hirstein, Scott LaMorte, Helga Noice, Susan Swords Steffen, Earl Swallow, Therese Wehman The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. Travel Grants The committee received a total of 16 applications from 14 people. In the case of the two people who submitted two applications, it was agreed to defer the second application until the spring term. There was general discussion of criteria for ranking the applications, and committee members agreed to rank the applications and email their results to Earl Swallow. International Education Grant Applications were received from Judy Grimes and Jane Jagerski. There was general discussion about ranking the grants according to the likelihood of the trip developing into an international course. Earl Swallow agreed to discuss this with Wally Lagerway. Therese Wehman and Bill Hirstein inquired about the possibility of splitting the money between the two applicants, and there was general agreement that this was a possibility if the committee rated the applicants as being roughly equal. Midwest Faculty Seminars Kale Haywood has expressed an interest in attending the Jan. seminar on Hannah Arendt, and as she is the only applicant, the committee agreed to send her. Excellence in Teaching Award Earl Swallow distributed current copies of the memo announcing the awards, and the nomination form to be used by the students. Minor changes were made to the wording of the announcement memo. Improvements to the system of taping the interviews, especially the sound quality were discussed.
