Faculty Development Committee Meeting 5F Minutes November 5, 2002 Present: P. Ackles, L. Carroll, H. Hall, B. Hirstein, S. LaMorte, H. Noice, E. Swallow (Chairperson) 1. The meeting was called to order at 2:43 PM. 2. The minutes from the October 22, 2002 meeting were approved without corrections. 3. International Education Grants: W. Lagerwey is working on applications for the Bradley Seminar in Berlin and Prague. To date, there are no written requests. 4. Grant Writing Workshop: S. LaMorte expressed his excitement about the attendance (~20 people attended). He asked the committee for suggestions on how to improve the presentation or ideas for a follow-up presentation/workshop. It was suggested that perhaps a presentation for the Humanities division would be beneficial (disciplines where it is more difficult to find available money). Possible basis for a division meeting? 5. PafET: H. Noice made a copy of all of the student organizations and gave it to L. Carroll. L. Carroll will "nudge" student organizations and SGA to begin thinking about nominating a faculty member for this award. E. Swallow added that organizations could get a head start by looking on the Faculty Development web page for material from previous years. 6. Draft Materials for Spring Term: E. Swallow will add that "the Faculty Development Committee would like to have a descriptive title and a one sentence synopsis of the proposed activities that would be appropriate for a press release." This will aid in developing the information needed for Honor's Convocation. 7. Travel Grant Requests: The committee discussed the travel grants. 8. Faculty Presentations: The first date is set for November 7 at 11:30 in the Library. Presenters include: K. Haywood, J. Grimes, and D. Goetz. 9. The meeting was adjourned at 3:50 PM. Respectfully submitted, Heather Hall
