Faculty Development Committee Meeting #1F Minutes 9/9/03 Present: M. Baehr, L.Carroll, A. Das, H. Hall, W. Hirstein, K. Kokotas, S. LaMorte, K. Lawler- Sagarin, S. Mehigan, K. Rust, E. Swallow, S. Swords Steffen Meeting was called to order at 3:06 PM in the Bryan Room. 1. Commitee chairperson, elected last spring, is E. Swallow. 2. Each member will be asked to be recorder of one meeting this year. 3. Meeting schedule is set for this term (3:00PM-4/4:15PM in Bryan Room, except on 10/7 when in SC138): Tue. Sept. 23 Tue. Oct. 7 Tue. Oct. 21 Tue. Nov. 4 Tue. Nov. 18 Tue. Dec. 2 Tue. Dec. 16 [if needed] 4. Corrected copies of Faculty Development Brochure will be sent to all fulltime faculty tomorrow. This borchure is useful for both present faculty and prospective hires. E. Swallow will make a link on the FD website to a PDF copy of the brochure. Updates were given on Niebuhr Grants, Teaching Institute in October, and Adjunct Packets that were sent to all fall adjunct faculty. 5. Faculty Development Committee webpage is being updated for this year with some suggestions implemented. 6. Lilly Conference: Nobody showed an interest in attending this year's Lilly Conference. This money can be used to fund additional travel grants if needed. 7. Midwest Faculty Seminar--E. Swallow emailed schedule to all fulltime faculty. He will request that chairs suggest appropriate adjuncts faculty. To date, four faculty have requested attending three of the events. 8. Travel grants and Interantional grants request draft will be circulated to Faculty Development Committee members soon. After approval, they will be sent to all faculty. 9. Teaching Circle revival: K. Lawler-Sagarin developed a survey for the faculty to discover the level of interest in crafting various faculty development programs. M. Baehr will get them sent to adjunct faculty. K. Lawler-Sagarin will hand them out and collect them from the faculty aqt the September 19 faculty meeting. 10. Two members of the Advancement Office WANT to be on this committee. This fact should be used to figure out how to get outside funds. From statements made by the president at the opening retreat, it seems clear that scholarly activities are coming to the forefront. This must be, in part, due to this committee's work over the past few years. Meeting was adjourned at 4:12 PM. Respectfully submitted by Marie Baehr
