SPECIFIC COURSE REQUIREMENTS FOR EDU 440:

ATTENDANCE

Students are required to attend all class sessions. During this time

preparation for and participation in all classes is required and expected. 

If an absence is necessary due to illness or a dire emergency, the student is

to contact the instructor immediately. If no contact is made, or if absence

is due to other than an illness or dire emergency, student is expected to

research the topic under discussion for the day and submit a paper on the

topic. (55 points)

 

 

PAUSE AND REFLECT RESPONSES

Student will submit 34 typed Pause and Reflect responses coinciding with

each chapter. Considerable thought and refection should be put into each

narration. Points will not be awarded for late assignments or for assignments

that have not been proof read and typed. Pause and Reflect will be used as a

springboard for dialogue during each class session. Student will be expected

to participate in all discussions.

(5 points each = total 170 points)

 

 

QUIZZES

6 quizzes will be given throughout the course. Each quiz will be from Shanker

and Ekwall text: Locating and Correcting Reading Difficulties (10 points each = total 60 points)

 

 

PROJECT

Each student will choose a topic of interest relating to the field of reading

remediation. A lesson will be shared with the class focusing on the area of

the topic selected. Hands-on experiences should be used when presenting.

Copies of lesson should be provided for each member of the class. (written

lesson plan -25 points, presentation of lesson - 25 = 50 points total)

 

 

GRADING SCALE:

 

A = 92% - 100% 308 - 335

B = 84% - 91%   281 - 307

C = 74% - 83 %  248 - 280

D = 68% - 73%   228 - 247

F = 67% & under
