John Cage—A Conversation about Radio

Write a one-page report that answers the questions on Musical Quarterly and on Cage posed in the bullets below.

Musical Quarterly is a leading musicological journal. Search the periodical collection at Buehler Library to find Vol. LXXII (1986); it contains all four issues of Vol. LXXII bound in a single volume. Browse through the table of contents for each issue. Not surprisingly, it contains scholarly articles about all eras of music history.

Read the article on pp. 216-227 of issue no. 2: “John Cage and Richard Kostelanetz: A Conversation about Radio.” As you read, bear in mind that Cage is talking in the 1980s about works he created in the 1940s and 1950s.

Finally, enter the Blackboard site for this course, click on Discussion, and find the Encounter 8 question. Once there, answer these questions—

Respond to at least one other student’s reply to these questions.

If you are already in Blackboard, click here to go to the Discussion board.
