Where
Does It All Begin?
Part 2
Looking from the NM2 Hall to Wilson Hall (Upstream) |
The beam has travelled from Wilson Hall and is about to enter NM2 Hall |
Once the beam enters the NM2 Hall, many things start to happen. The beam, which is a proton and antiproton beam, is being turned into a kaon beam. How is it done? Well, the next section of the picture tour will discuss this. |
Entrance to NM2 Hall |
Looking from NM2 to KTeV Hall (Downstream) |
Up ahead is KTeV Hall. The distance from NM2 to KTeV Hall is about 200 feet. So how far has the beam travelled, originating from the Tevatron? |
Welcome to KTeV Hall! After travelling 650 feet, the beam has arrived!! Remember, this is not a slow trip for the beam. It travels at a very fast speed, close to the speed of light! The distance for the beam may be very far, but the beam quickly enters KTeV Hall after leaving the Tevatron. Once we get more into the tour you will see how physicists keep the beam on track and at its constant speed. In the next stop, NM2 Hall is analyzed in greater depth. |
