In 1943 Alexander quit work and attended a local college. He decided to quit school because of the fact that he did not enjoy his classes any longer, and he entered himself into World War II. He was later released in Paris. He attended the University of Paris, where he met his wife, and he ended up marrying a Parisian girl named Janine. They returned to the states soon after marrying one another. He started writing as well as working many jobs and he got published (after several years). He wrote for adults to begin with, but once he started for young people he felt that he was able to express a much more sensitive side that could not be deciphered through the portrayal of his adult literature. The interviews done by scholastic students gives a great recognition for a sense of the author s mindset pertaining to vigorous notions on his books as well more details of his personal life. Alexander decided to write the Prydain Chronicles because he loved reading King Arthur s stories as well as fairy tales and myths similar to the story. He mentions that his Prydain Chronicles he did not have much a plan to begin. He planned to write one or two of these chronicles originally, but each book that he wrote seemed to develop a certain ideal for a sequel. After seven years of writing these books he was astonished five of these books were actually developed. Alexander mentioned that he did not create a Christian theme behind his stories intentionally. The ship wreckage that occurs in Medwyn s valley is similar to the one that occurs in Noah s Ark which may be the reason for causality of people to interlope his writing with religious affiliations. Most of Alexander s writings were for children with exception of five of the thirty-seven novels he wrote (The World of Lloyd Alexander). Lloyd Alexander seemed to have a fulfilling life. Even though his parents did not want him to become an author he decided to fulfill his dream of becoming one anyways. His final decision for his career was at the age of fifteen. At this young age he was already in his last year of high school. His parents did not enjoy literature like their son. They told him to get a real job. This idea of working a real job scared Lloyd. He was still in a state of youthfulness at this point in time. As a boy Lloyd worked at a local bank. He did not enjoy this job one minute. He could barely add or subtract. He had to rydain came from his own love with King Arthur. He loved acting out King Arthur tales as a child. He admired his courageousness, heroism, and his ability to be a magnificent person. All of the names in the Prydain Chronicles come from research (history and mythology). When writing the High King Alexander created characters similar to his family. When the end came about and Taran needed to make a difficult decision he felt like he lost a friend, which shows how close he actually becomes to his characters. In Westmark Alexander discusses censorship. The author discusses how censorship is illegal in our constitution. The author discusses how this is a terrible restriction on people s intelligence as well as their free will. The idea of Time Cat was developed because the author s cat actually gave the author the idea. His cat disappeared causing him to go on an endless search to find it. He believed that this would be an excellent thing to write about. He started thinking about the different places a cat would like to visit. He found that there were nine places in the past that a cat would logically visit. In Egypt cats are considered to be divine creatures. There was also a Roman Legion called the Old Cats Company. Their insignia was a cat. The author also has some experience from being in some of the towns he mentions in Time Cat. Alexander mentions that the settings for his books are developed by reading a lot of geography and history. The research and preparation for writing his stories takes him nearly the same time span as it would writing an actual book. Alexander comes up with his characters by analyzing people as well (he researches them). Since the characters in his story are real his thoughts about the actual characters are non-imaginative as well. He believed that all people are not just one personality. He believes that we all carry numerous amounts of different personalities. Some he feels are marvelous and some of them he believes are terrible personalities. He enjoys each character he creates. He enjoys their entirety because of the fact that each character has an extremely large amount of hard work placed onto them. All of these novels show the effort that Alexander has put into his writing, and if you were to read some of these books you might ask yourself when did this author begin to write. He started writing his books his books at the age of thirteen. He started out by writing poetry. He wanted to be a poet more than a novelist at his starting point. He felt that the possibility of being born a writer sounded to be an excellent point in fact, but he definitely did not see himself as a born poet. He felt that their was a good possibility that he was born to write for children. The idea of himself becoming a writer did not enter his mind by any reasonable explanation for existence. The reasons that his parents were absolutely petrified that their son was becoming a writer was due to the fact that they did not think that he could survive on the money from salary books. They were also afraid that writing was too time consuming. Alexander found that his parents were correct in this idea. He kept at it anyway. He was thinking that pizza making and real estate were two possibilities for careers of his. After his first book his parents finally accepted his career as a writer. His parents never read one book throughout their lives until their sons. This is when his parents finally accepted his writing. Alexander s old aunt who read stories of Shakespeare was responsible for his love of reading. He believes that he takes full responsibility for becoming a writer. As a young child this author enjoyed reading Victor Hugo, Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, and numerous other authors as well. He develops somewhat of a theory for his books mentioning that there is not just one novel that we enjoy. He feels that every part about being a writer was difficult. The thing that Alexander likes most about most writing is the finished piece of writing. He enjoyed writing all of his books with an equal amount of enjoyment as well as a feeling of magnificent enthusiasm. He mentioned that he scares his wife by yelling out from the inebriating pain that he developed through his own writing (this is figurative). Alexander gets into his literature so much he moans and cries. Alexander enjoys writing his fantasy books because he feels that they suit his temperament and disposition. He enjoyed writing the Vesper Holly series which are extremely realistic in his beliefs. Although a lot of his writing on his fantasy is quite realistic Westmark is make believe. Growing up Alexander had one sister. She was five years older than he. Alexander enjoyed playing inside and outside. He was a pianist. He also liked drawing pictures. The first book that he tried to publish was unsuccessful. Basically this story entailed a young person trying to make himself more successful in everyday life. When he first began writing children s literature he had a difficult time thinking of something to write. To begin writing a story Alexander thinks of the story first then he writes it down on paper. He tries to understand his feelings and emotions going on in his mind and whatever he feels compelled to express. He stops his fear from continuous trembling once his first piece of paper enters his typewriter. The book Alexander is currently writing is somewhat horrendous. He is at the stage of thinking, but he has writer s block. His newest publication for a book is Gypsy Rizka. He says that this book is hilarious. It will be publicized in two months (Children s Book Council). numerous other authors as well. He develops somewhat of a theory for his books mentioning that there is not just one novel that we enjoy. He feels that every part about being a writer was difficult.
