6.   Dinosaur World, Christoher Santoro, Random House, 1997.
      A very colorful story that describes a man’s journey through time as he also provides facts. This
      book has over 70 flaps children can search through. K-3rd

7.    Buster’s Dino Dilemma, Marc Brown, Little, Brown and Company, 1998.
      Arthur and Buster go on a dinosaur adventure.  This is a chapter book good for 1st-3rd grades.

8.    Dinosaur Roar, Paul and Henrietta Stickland, Dutton Children’s Book, 1997.
       This is a board book that uses dinosaurs to describe opposites.  This is a good book for very
       young children with special needs.

9.    I Love Dinosaurs, Michael Berenstain’s, Golden Books, 1996.
      This book has four stories in one, which provides some factual information with pictures that
      are very cartoon like. 1st –3rd

10.   Dinofours, Steve Metzgar, Cartwheel Books, 1997.
        This story talks about the procedure for a fire drill at the dinosaur’s school.

11.   The Lost World, Jennifer Dussling, Grosset & Dunlap, 1997.
        This is a chapter book based on the movie The Lost World.  The appropriate age group would
        be 2nd and 3rd graders.

        This book is based on the same show.  The Magic School Bus travels back in time to visit the

        Curious George goes to the dinosaur museum.  George gets in trouble for climbing the dinosaurs.

       This book only talks about this particular dinosaur and shows archeologists tools and on site
       pictures from other dinosaur digs. K-3rd

3.    Hunt for the Past: My Life as an Explorer, Sue Hendrickson, Cartwheel Books, 2001.
       This is the story of Sue Hendrickson, the women who discovered “SUE.”  This is a chapter
       book, great for 1st-3rd grades.

4.    The Reign of the Dinosaurs, Jean-Guy Michard, Discovery, 1992.
       This is not a book children could read easily but contains many great pictures of fossils and
       dinosaur digs. K and up.

5.    Dinosaurs, Peter Zallinger, Random House, 1977.
       Dinosaurs have cartooned like pictures but gives facts one many different types of dinosaurs,
       fossils, and where they used to live. K-2nd

6.    Learn About Dinosaurs, Leap Frog, 1990.
       This is a small book, which gives a short definition on 10 dinosaurs along with a picture.

7.    Dinosaurs, Gail Gibbons, Scholastic Inc., 1987.
       This is a cartoon pictured book that gives definitions and facts on an assortment of dinosaurs.
       K-1st

8.    Glow-in-the-Dark Dinosaur Skeletons, Annie Ingle, Random House, 1993.
       This is a glow-in-the-dark book.  When holding the book in a dark room a child will be able
       to observe the skeletons of the dinosaurs. K-3rd

       This book addresses question specific to T-Rex like what food he ate, where he lived, and who

        Each book investigates in great detail on individual dinosaurs covering all aspects of them. 1st and up.

        This dinosaur books gives age appropriate definitions, where dinosaurs lived (with a map), and

        This is one of many magazines from National Geographic on dinosaurs but a teacher needs
        to be careful, sometimes other articles and pictures are inappropriate for children. 2nd and higher.

        This story travels back in time to address questions a little boy has about dinosaurs.  1st-3rd

15.   Dinosaurs: Big & Small, Kathleen Zoehfed, Disney Press, 2000.
        This is another book from the movie Dinosaur that compares sizes of the dinosaurs. 
        It is very colorful with realistic pictures. 1st   – 3rd

Wackysaurus, Phillips, Louis, Puffin Books, 1991.
This ibook is set up as a chapter book but posses all jokes about dinosaurs.  The illustrations are
black and white line drawings that are very cute.  This would be an excellent reader for children in second grade or older.
For early childhood classes the teacher could just read the joke to the class.  The jokes are simple and kids would
get a kick out of it.

Dinosaur Jokes, Bixenman, Judy, The Child’s World, Inc, 1991.
This book is a colorful joke book with bight illustrations. 
This joke book is great for a preschool to first graders.  The jokes are easy and silly.  For example: What’s the worst part about having a dinosaur for dinner?  You have to eat leftovers for weeks!

A Dozen Dinosaurs, Armour, Richard, McGraw-Hill Book Co, 1967.
This is a much older poem book but it posses different text positioning and the illustrations different them most books today.  This book will provide children with a different style of material as well as easy, yet well written dinosaur poems.  This would be appropriate for first grade and older.


Dinosaur Dances, Yolen, Jane, G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 1990.
This is a wonderful book with poems about dinosaurs doing different types of dances. The illustrations are vivid and kids get a big kick out of them!  This book could also be used as a picture book.  It would be a great classroom book for preschool and to third grade.

This is a chapter book about a tree house that appears out of nowhere and takes the two main characters, Jack and Annie, off to a prehistoric land.  Will they get home before dark or will they become a creature’s dinner?  This book is a part of The Magic Tree House Series. Excellent for second grade or older.

Hunt for the Past: My Life as an Explorer, Sue Hendrickson, Cartwheel Books, 2001.
This is the story of Sue Hendrickson, the women who discovered “SUE.”  This is a chapter book, great for 1st-3rd grades. This book explains Sue Hendrickson journey to discovering the t-rex named Sue.  It also has real life pictures of the dig site and the tools used during the discovering.

Dinosaur Dig, Lasky, Kathryn, Morrow Junior Books, 1990.
This is an excellent resource for children to get the idea of what a dinosaur dig expedition is.  The mother and her two children’s experience write this story on a dinosaur dig.  They provide many real life pictures on the tools they use, what the fossils look like in the ground, and how the fossils are preserved once they are taken from the ground.

This book is an excellent classroom resource on herbivores.  It has character pictures as well as real life picture of artifacts and tools.  There is a lot of information on each page.  It would be great to be utilized in research for second graders and older.


Dinosaur and Other Prehistoric Animals, Whitfield, Philip, Simon & Schuster, 1992.
This resource has many different types of information for children to use.  The book displays maps of where dinosaurs where found, what their environment looked like, and provides children with a timetable.  This book would be good for first graders and older.

The Loch Ness Monster, Rabinowich, Ellen, Franklin Watts, 1979.
This book is the story of the Loch Ness monster.  It is written at a children’s level and is a good resource.  This is one way to extend on the theme of dinosaurs. In observing in a classroom, the teacher utilized this story for the children to debate whether the Loch Ness ever existed and if it can even be considered a dinosaur.  Children made comparisons between dinosaurs and Loch Ness and their responses were very interesting and a good reflection of learned material. Great book for second graders or older.


Fabulous Monsters, Williams, Marcia, Candlewick Press, 1999.
This is a book that has several different myths on “monsters” some of which are dinosaurs.  Children can make comparisons to the other monsters in the book such as dragons.  The illustrations in this book are very busy and the text is set up as a comic strip.  This book is full of new vocabulary! Great for grades one and up.
