Careers and Outcomes

This program focuses on preparing students who are interested in working in early intervention programs, prevention initiative programs or child-care programs.

Upon graduation, students will have completed a developmental therapy internship (250 supervised clinical hours) and will have all the necessary coursework to apply for a Developmental Therapy credential from the Department of Human Services (DHS). This credential will allow students to work with infants and toddlers with delays and disabilities and their families in the Early Intervention System in Illinois.

Graduates of the M.Ed. Program in Early Childhood Special Education are working in a variety of places. Some work as developmental therapists either as independent service providers or in early intervention programs in agencies. Others are working in prevention initiative programs with young children birth to age three who are considered to be at-risk. Still others are working in early head start or head start programs, or in child-care programs.
