Matthew Lee, adjunct professor of trumpet and brass area coordinator, also teaches brass techniques and conducts the trumpet ensemble. In addition to his duties at Elmhurst College, he is an active freelance musician in the Chicago area and performs as principal trumpet of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and Chicago Sinfonietta. He is also a member of the critically acclaimed Chicago Brass Quintet, Millar Brass Ensemble and Tower Brass of Chicago. He frequently performs as an extra and substitute with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Grant Park Symphony and the Lyric Opera Orchestra of Chicago.
Lee attended Western Illinois University receiving a bachelor of music degree in music education, studying with William DeJong. He received his master’s degree in performance from Northwestern University studying with Vincent Cichowicz. His other principal teacher was Adolph Herseth.
