Susan Moninger holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Millikin University and a Master’s degree in Music Education from Northwestern University.
As Director of Student Choral Activities at Elmhurst College, Professor Moninger conducts the Elmhurst College Concert Choir, the Chamber Singers, and the internationally acclaimed vocal jazz ensemble “Late Night Blues.” The vocal jazz ensemble has headlined for FAME events in New York, California and Florida. Also they were chosen to represent the United States performing in the International Festival of University Choirs “Universitas Cantat” held in Poland.
Recently, members of the Elmhurst College Concert Choir sang with the Chicago Pops Orchestra, performing Distant Worlds/Final Fantasy at the Rosemont Theater and can be heard on their current CD with the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra-Arnie Roth, conductor. The choir tours throughout the United States, and Canada. The choir also has performed in Prague with the Czech National Symphony and for Academy Award-winner Howard Shore for his “Lord of the Rings” Symphony.
Named to Who’s Who Among Teachers in America, she also was chosen as the Elmhurst College faculty member elected into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi for Superior Academic Scholarship.
Moninger enjoys judging classical, vocal jazz and show choir competitions for middle school, high school and collegiate choirs. She also conducts district, all-county and all-state ensembles throughout the United States. She has served as a conductor/presenter in Canada, Italy, Poland, London and the Netherlands. She can be seen in the London documentary: “Glee-ful: The Truth about Show Choirs.” A former jingle singer, (United Airlines, Green Giant and numerous other national commercials) she feels fortunate to share her experiences to help others reach their goals. As a composer and arranger her vocal jazz charts are published by KJOS of San Diego, California. She is a current member of SAG-AFTRA, Actors Equity Association, American Choral Directors Association and the National Association for Music Education.
Professor Moninger has served as the Standard and Repertoire Chairperson for Vocal Jazz and Show Choir Central Division of the American Choral Directors Association. This summer she celebrates 34 years as co-founder and co-director of Showchoir Camps of America. She has worked with over 32,000 students and directors from around the world. These workshops have been held at Millikin University, Heidelberg College, and Walt Disney World Resorts, and focus on teaching and refining singing, dancing and performing techniques.
