The Elmhurst University Dept. of Theatre & Dance is pleased to announce that we will be producing Animal Farm, Nelson Bond’s adaptation of the novel by George Orwell.

Audition information is listed below the synopsis.

Synopsis

The animals of Manor Farm have revolted against the negligent rule of their human master and set out to forge a society that will ensure true equality and freedom for all with four legs. Power was turned over to the pigs, who were deemed the most intelligent. The integrity of their character, on the other hand, turned out to be a very different story.

This faithful adaptation of George Orwell’s biting allegory illustrates that even the noblest of causes can be corrupted by the dangerous allure of absolute power.

This production will be directed by Andrew Behling and will be performed via a streaming medium.

Audition Information

Please record two takes of a monologue (of any style). Perform the first take however you might conventionally prepare the piece. In your second take, take on some physical and vocal characteristics of any animal. This is not an imitation but an incorporation. Aim for a 70% human / 30% animal split. Also, feel free to experiment some with how you interact with the camera. We will be composing this piece with what we are able to accomplish within these “windows.”

You may submit your audition as an attached file or as an unlisted YouTube or Vimeo link. Please have your audition submitted by Friday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m.

Audition submissions should be emailed to theatreinfo@elmhurst.edu.
