Questions about parking at Elmhurst University? Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.
The Department of Public Safety is located in the lower level of Lehmann Hall. We are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and we welcome you to stop by or call us anytime at (630) 617-3000.
The sticker should be placed on the lower left-hand side (driver’s side) of the front windshield.
Yes! We’ll be happy to help you get into your car or start a dead battery, so long as you have your Jaypass and you’re parked in one of these places:
- On campus
- Along Walter Street
- In the University’s parking spaces along the railroad tracks
- In one of the two remote parking lots
There’s no charge for these services, but you’ll need to sign a waiver form. We do not change flat tires or dig cars out of the snow.
Yes. Parking stickers are valid for one year, from Sept. 1 to Aug. 31.
Parking sticker fees are:
- $50 per semester for commuter students
- $100 per semester for residential students
- Free for graduate students
- Free for faculty and staff
The fee will be charged to your student account once you register your vehicle with the Department of Public Safety.
Bring your current parking sticker to the Department of Public Safety and exchange it for a commuter student parking permit.
No. The parking policy prohibits first-year residential students from having a car on campus. If you think your circumstances qualify you for an exemption, get a parking exception form from the Department of Public Safety and submit it.
Yes, all vehicles parked on Elmhurst University property must display a current parking sticker. The parking sticker fee is waived for graduate students.
For your convenience, the Department of Public Safety is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. You can request your parking sticker there.
Bring the pieces to the Department of Public Safety, and we’ll issue a new one at no charge.

Yes, every vehicle on Elmhurst University property must be registered with the Department of Public Safety. There is no fee for registering motorcycles. Motorcycles may park in designated motorcycle spaces, which are marked on the

Yes, but you can obtain a temporary parking permit at no charge by going to the Department of Public Safety with your Jaypass and your guest’s information (name, cell phone number, vehicle make, model, license plate, year and color). Guests may stay up to 72 hours in any given week, so temporary parking passes are issued for a maximum of three days.
Each apartment is assigned one parking space. To park there, you’ll need a residential parking sticker and an apartment hangtag. Your apartment hangtag should be displayed from your rearview mirror when parked in the apartment space. Your space is reserved for residents of your apartment only—you may not lend your apartment hangtag to anyone else. If your assigned space is occupied, park in one of the campus lots where overnight parking is permitted:
- Dinkmeyer Hall
- Stanger Hall/West Hall
- Alexander
- Mill Theatre
If your apartment hangtag rips, bring it to the Department of Public Safety for a replacement.
You’ll need a residential parking sticker if you want to park in your driveway. If you have guests who want to park in your driveway, you’ll need a temporary parking permit.
If your driveway is occupied, park in one of the campus lots where overnight parking is permitted:

- Stanger Hall/West Hall
- Alexander
- Mill Theatre
Please do not park or drive on the grass.
If your disability will last less than two weeks, contact the Department of Public Safety. If it will last longer than that, apply for a disability parking placard through the Illinois Secretary of State’s office.

No. Parking in Elmhurst University parking lots is reserved for currently enrolled students, staff and faculty while they are on campus.
No. Parking on campus property overnight is only permitted for vehicles registered to current residential students.
No. Fire lane parking restrictions are enforced by the Department of Public Safety as well as the Elmhurst Police Department, and violators are subject to ticketing by the Department of Public Safety and the police.
No. Accessible parking spaces, which include the adjacent striped zones, are enforced by the Department of Public Safety as well as the Elmhurst Police Department, and violators are subject to ticketing by the Department of Public Safety and the police.
You’ll have to pay a fee, which will be added directly to your student account. You’re welcome to appeal any Elmhurst University vehicle violations within five days of the date of violation. If you receive eight or more tickets in an academic year, you’ll receive a habitual offender vehicle violation of $50 for each additional violation. You also could be ticketed by the Elmhurst Police Department and referred to the campus judicial process for violations of the Elmhurst University Code of Conduct.
