First-year and transfer students who receive the Presidential or Transfer of Excellence Scholarship and present an ACT score of 26 or above or SAT score of 1240 or above are invited to apply. Current students with a 3.5 or above cumulative GPA and a letter of recommendation from a faculty member also may apply. Applications are reviewed by the Honors Program director.

Honors courses are small, and many are taught in an interactive seminar style. Honors courses focus on developing critical thinking through discussions and use of primary texts. They often include guest speakers and field trips.
No. There are cultural and social activities, too. The Honors Program has sponsored trips to theatre and dance performances, bowling parties, dinners, and Q&A sessions with guest speakers.
Plus, you’ll work closely with the staff of the Russell G. Weigand Center for Professional Excellence (WCPE) as you plan your career through mentoring and internships, counseling, international study, the Intercultural Lecture Series, and Service-Learning opportunities.
No, Honors courses and seminars are limited to Honors Program members.
No, there are three levels of participation.
For a designation of Honors Program Scholar, you must complete 6.5 units of Honors courses with a grade of B or better, including a research component via Honors Independent Research and/or an Honors Interdisciplinary Seminar. An Honors Program Global Scholar meets these requirements and completes a credit-bearing Study Abroad experience.
If you complete 4.75 units of Honors course credit with at least one Honors course at the 300/400 level with a grade of B or better, you’ll be designated an Honors Program Member upon graduation.
It’s not mandatory, but highly encouraged. Each term, several Honors courses include a Service-Learning component. In addition, service opportunities are planned by the Honors student organization.
