Elmhurst Summer Music Institute
The Elmhurst Summer Music Institute for high school students includes 5 one-week sessions led by Elmhurst University applied faculty and conductors. Each session is designed to introduce and expose students to a challenging array of some of the finest repertoire in each genre with the goals of inspiring young musicians to love music and attain higher levels of musical achievement.
Designed to explore the world of classical music through the performance of arrangements of some of the finest masterworks of all of time. Musicianship, ensemble skills, and woodwind technique are presented in a focused environment with the goal of inspiring young musicians by proving to each student that they’re better than they think they are.
Designed to explore the world of jazz through performance in jazz combos. Classes in jazz theory, improvisation, and masterclasses will be presented in a focused environment with the goal of inspiring young musicians and culminating in a final performance of jazz standards.
Designed to introduce and expose young musicians to the world of brass music through the performance of some of the finest masterworks for brass chamber ensembles and brass choir. Musicianship, ensemble skills, and brass technique are presented in a focused environment with the goal of inspiring young musicians by proving to each student that they’re better than they think they are.
Designed for high school band students as an intensive one-week music camp with master classes, technique classes, sectionals and large ensemble rehearsals culminating with a final performance of challenging and rewarding musical literature.

Applications
Applications may be submitted now through June 1, 2026. Applications will be reviewed and accepted on a first-come, first-served basis pending receipt of an initial deposit of $100. Applications will remain open until individual sections are filled, at which time a waiting list will be initiated. Each applicant must also submit a recommendation form completed by their private teacher or school music director. Nomination forms must be received by June 1.

No refunds will be issued after June 1.
The Elmhurst Summer Music Institute is a commuter-only program to make it more affordable for students and families to participate.
