Social Justice Studies
Disability studies leads to a better understanding of the history, characteristics, roles, contributions, social status and needs of people with disabilities. Students may focus on a specific group (e.g. deaf studies) or on a variety of disabilities.
For the major in intercultural studies with a focus in disability studies, choose three of the following in addition to the rest of the major requirements. As part of the requirements for a minor in intercultural studies, students enroll in two of the following courses:
- COM 242 Autism (January Term)
- CSD 233 Workshop in Sign Language I (.50 credit)
and
- CSD 236 Workshop in Sign Language II (.50 credit)
- ICS 280/380 Intercultural Experiential
- PSY 327 Abnormal Psychology (PSY 210)
- PSY 427 Child Psychology (PSY 356 and 327)
- PSY 430 Cognitive Processes (PSY 210, 355 and 456)
Other options (as appropriate and approved by the ICS department chair) include:
- ICS 280/380 Intercultural Experiential
- ICS 390 Special Topics
- ICS 492 Independent Study
- Distance learning or transfer course
- Independent Study with department faculty
- Study abroad, Chicago Semester or other off-campus study
