Celebrating the Classes of ’20 and ’21
We are delighted to share an updated plan for the May 2021 Commencement celebrations!
Elmhurst University is planning for a series of in-person campus ceremonies under a tent on the Mall. We are inviting the Class of 2020 to join the ceremony and walk across the stage with the Class of 2021.
We are also happy to announce that each graduate can have up to two (2) guests in attendance.
To ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff, and to abide by existing government guidelines regarding the capacity of outdoor gatherings, we will be conducting four separate ceremonies over two days: Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22.
Each graduating student will receive two wristbands for their guests (for their corresponding ceremony). Guests, graduates and faculty will be seated physically distanced under the tent. (Guests without wristbands will not be permitted in the area surrounding the tent. Please do not bring more than two guests.)
Masks will be required of all participants. The ceremonies will also be livestreamed for online viewing off campus.

Graduates will receive information with more details over the next few weeks as we continue to finalize our Commencement plans. You will be assigned a Commencement based on your academic program. You will receive this information via your Elmhurst University email (or secondary email we have on file if you are from the 2020 graduating class), and it will be posted on the Elmhurst University website.
Any questions or concerns should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The ceremonies will not be moved indoors regardless of the weather.
Cap and Gown
If you haven’t yet ordered your cap and gown, you should do so as soon as possible. Caps and gowns are ordered through Beck’s Bookstore. When placing your order, be sure to order the correct graduating class regalia. Jostens’ has confirmed that caps and gowns are nonrefundable for orders placed after March 17. More information will follow once your order is placed.
An email will be sent with your assigned Commencement time, along with an RSVP for the ceremony. Please be sure to return the RSVP in a timely manner. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Again, check your email often and reach out with any questions—congratulations, graduates!
If you have not been receiving Commencement information for either the 2020 or 2021 ceremonies please email email@example.com to receive further information.
To help ensure that everyone’s needs are met during our Commencement ceremonies, we are asking for volunteers who can assist the University on May 21 and 22. If you are interested, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your available times.
Commencement 2020 Highlights
Congratulations to our graduates! The 148th Commencement ceremonies were held on Thursday, May 30, and Saturday, June 1, 2019.
We wish the members of the Class of ’19 all the best as they venture out and make their mark.
Ceremony Livestream and Video
The BlueJayTV website livestreams the ceremonies for those who cannot attend.
In addition, you can watch past ceremonies on the University’s YouTube channel.
Professional Photography and Video
If we are able to host a traditional in-person ceremony and can safely document it, the entire ceremony will be professionally recorded and photographed.
- Grad Images, a professional photography company, will take individual photos of each graduate as they receive their diploma on the stage. After Commencement, you’ll receive an email from Grad Images with a link to your proofs, along with purchase information.
