Welcome to WRSE Studios, Elmhurst University’s new multimedia center where students create livestreams, video and audio podcasts and other content and practice digital media production techniques, such as narrative audio mixing, dialogue replacement (ADR) and voiceover recording.
Run by the Department of Communication and Media, WRSE Studios brings new purpose to the space formerly occupied by the campus radio station, WRSE 88.7 FM, which ceased operations in May 2026, and reflects the evolving needs of Elmhurst University students and faculty, and the University’s efforts to keep meeting those needs with meaningful experiences and opportunities.
History of WRSE
WRSE began broadcasting in 1947 during Homecoming as a carrier-current service that was heard in campus dormitories and signed on as an FM station in 1962.
After two years of planning and renovations, WRSE opened a modernized main studio in the basement of the Frick Center in August 2012. The project added a new soundboard and phone system and digitized the station’s music collection; at the time, WRSE transmitted with 320 watts.
The University is grateful to those who worked in the radio station, many of whom used the station to jump start successful careers in radio broadcasting.
