In this hour-long webinar, JaShawn Hill, LCSW, and clinical youth counselors from Chicago Survivors will discuss the impact of trauma and ways that teachers, counselors, and community members can support people impacted by the trauma of gun violence.
Volunteers from Chicago Survivors arrive at Chicago hospitals within hours of a shooting death to support families dealing with grief, shock, and trauma. They also provide ongoing support to young survivors with events like the summer storytelling camp, where children process their grief through storytelling, spoken word, movement, music and other creative forms of expression. As Hill states in her Chicago Tribune op-ed, “violence cannot be stopped until we address root causes, and I rank untreated trauma very high on the list.”
