The Elmhurst College Wind Ensemble and American Legion T.H.B. Post 187 will present a Veterans Day tribute concert on Nov. 10.

The hour-long concert will feature patriotic music and guest speakers from the Elmhurst College Veterans Association and Cmdr. John Scudder from the Elmhurst American Legion. Members of the American Legion Color Guard and Elmhurst Boy Scout Troops 77 and 82 will also perform.

After an invocation by the Rev. H. Scott Matheney, the concert will open with Morton Gould’s “American Legion Forever,” a march dedicated to the American Legion, followed by World War I music by George M. Cohan. Other pieces will include a medley of music from World War II through the Gulf War; John Williams’ “Hymn to the Fallen,” which will be accompanied by a video tribute; “God of Our Fathers” and “Stars and Stripes Forever,” our national hymn and march; and a patriotic sing-along of “America the Beautiful.”

Elmhurst College President Troy D. VanAken has described the annual Veterans Day tribute concert as “a wonderful opportunity to enjoy inspirational, patriotic music, and to think about how this country’s veterans and active service members, throughout our history, have fought and died to keep us free.”

This tribute concert is a part of a larger effort to help increase community engagement and awareness of veterans and their service to our country, and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of American Legion T.H.B. Post 187 in Elmhurst.

The Veterans Day Tribute Concert begins at noon in Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel. Admission is free and all are welcome. For more information on the music department, please visit elmhurst.edu/music.
