The Elmhurst University Film Festival is a celebration of Elmhurst University student films. The event will feature a screening of nominated films and be followed by an awards ceremony and photo-op. Light food and snacks will be provided.

The festival is being judged by digital media professors Kristyn Jo Benedyk and John Klein. Benedyk. Kristyn is a writer, director and producer who earned an MFA in writing for film and television at the University of Southern California. Kristyn has written and directed four short films including “Flat Chested” which was nominated for best short film and best screenplay at the Midwest Independent Film Awards. She created the MFA in screenwriting program at DePaul University and helped build film programs at both the University of Cincinnati and at Elmhurst University. Klein is a cinematographer, director, and producer who graduated from DePaul University. He has worked on over 50 film and television projects as a cinematographer including “Chrysills” which had 10 wins and 20 nominations and “Static Space” which had 17 wins and 14 nominations.

The films being screened are all student-created. They include a range of genres from comedies to horror and different forms from traditional shorts to music videos and animations. Each film is under 20 minutes and is up for potential awards such as Best Picture, Best Directing, and Best Acting.

The Elmhurst University Film Festival is open to everyone on and off campus. Friends and family of the filmmakers as well as students, staff, and faculty are all encouraged to attend.
