Ivón Padilla-Rodríguez is an assistant professor of history at the University of Illinois Chicago whose research is rooted in her longstanding commitments to immigrant communities.
She will talk about her work on Sept. 10 when she presents “Childhood Across Borders? The History of Migrant Youth in the United States,” this year’s César Chavéz Intercultural Lecture at Elmhurst University.
The daughter of formerly undocumented Mexican immigrants, Padilla-Rodríguez specializes in the social and legal history of child migration to the United States. Outside of academia, her writing, research, and expertise have appeared in a variety of national media outlets. She also has written policy briefs on the migration of children and women for the federal government and non-profit organizations in the U.S. and Mexico.
The César Chavéz Intercultural Lecture begins at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center. Public lectures and other cultural programming at Elmhurst University support community engagement and lifelong learning, and prepare our students to thrive as adaptive leaders.
