Special Message about Sequestration and Financial Aid

March 4, 2013 | by the Office of Marketing and Communications

To the Elmhurst College community:

You have no doubt heard that as of March 1, 2013, a federal sequestration order has gone into effect. These direct, automatic across-the-board cuts will be split evenly between defense and domestic spending.

One of the areas affected by the order is financial aid for college students. At this point there’s a lot we don’t know about how and when these reductions will take effect. However, from what we understand at this time, the cuts are not likely to have a significant impact on students at Elmhurst College.

In the first place, sequestration will not affect Pell Grants, the largest federal student aid program.

Moreover, any impact on the two smaller programs that are targeted for reduction—the Federal Supplemental Grant Program and the College Work Study Program—will be offset by College resources.

Meanwhile, we welcome your questions. For more information, contact Ruth Pusich in the Office of Financial Aid at (630) 617-3075.

Sincerely,

Gary Rold
Dean of Admission
