English professor Mary Kay Mulvaney heads the Honors Program and teaches Honors-level research and writing, the Honors First-Year Seminar, Honors Directed Readings, Bi-disciplinary Honors courses and Honors Interdisciplinary Seminars. As an English professor she teaches courses ranging from first-year composition to graduate-level rhetorical theory. She also teaches numerous study abroad course during January Term.
Mulvaney received her Ph.D. in rhetoric from the University of Illinois at Chicago. In 2004 she received the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. She also has published and presented numerous times on composition and rhetorical theory and on the nature of academic writing. Her publications include the college-level textbook Academic Writing: Genres, Samples, and Resources. Most recently, she has co-edited Preparing Tomorrow’s Global Leaders: Honors International Education. In November 2015, Mulvaney was named a National Collegiate Honors Council Fellow for her contributions to Honors research and pedagogy; to date, this distinction has been awarded to fewer than 70 scholars across the country.
