U.S. News & World Report’s latest college rankings show Elmhurst University among the top 10 colleges and universities in the Midwest when it comes to social mobility and innovation.
Elmhurst also rose to No. 13 among the overall Best Regional Universities in the Midwest—and to No. 1 in that category in the state of Illinois, according to the U.S. News Best Colleges rankings for 2022-2023, released on Sept. 12.
Elmhurst ranks No. 8 this year—up 11 places from last year—in the category of Top Performers for Social Mobility, a list of colleges and universities that have been the most successful at advancing students’ social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of economically disadvantaged students who received federal Pell Grants. About half of Elmhurst’s undergraduate students are the first in their families to attend college, and 100 percent receive some form of financial aid.
The University ranked No. 9 among the Most Innovative Schools in the Midwest, a category that asked top college officials to identify peer institutions that are making the most innovative improvements in terms of curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology or facilities. Elmhurst, which is nearing completion of the largest comprehensive fundraising campaign in institutional history, was among the schools that received the most nominations for making promising changes on campus.
The University also rose two spots, to No. 20, on the list of Best Colleges for Veterans. It’s the latest recognition of the University as a school that strongly supports all members of the military community, including active duty, reserve and guard service members, veterans and military spouses. Earlier this year, Elmhurst was cited as a Military Friendly® Top 10 School, as well as a Military Friendly® Spouse School, for its work with student-veterans and their spouses throughout their academic journey.
U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings evaluate schools based on measures of academic quality, including outcomes, expert opinions, student excellence and more. In addition to the categories described earlier, Elmhurst University continues to rank among the top 20 institutions in the Midwest in the categories of Best Value and Best Undergraduate Teaching.
