The award-winning Elmhurst College Jazz Band will record its first live album during two free performances in June.
The recording-session concerts will take place on Sunday and Monday, June 28 and 29, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Mill Theatre. Admission is free, and the public is invited.
Under the direction of Grammy Award winner and Elmhurst College Director of Jazz Studies Doug Beach, the band will perform selections from the band’s recent tour of Germany, including works by Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer, Jim McNeely, Gil Evans and Elmhurst College student Jon Rarick. Several pieces will feature vocalist Jenna Hesseln.
The Elmhurst College Jazz Band has performed in concerts and festivals around the world and also hosts the annual Elmhurst College Jazz Festival, one of the oldest and best collegiate jazz festivals in the country.
The band has toured 17 nations and has been honored twice with invitations from the U.S. State Department to tour Europe. The band has performed frequently with renowned guest artists, including Bobby Shew, Louie Bellson, Pete Christlieb, Conte Candoli, Diane Schuur, Terry Gibbs, Lee Konitz, Denis DiBlasio, Clark Terry, Chris Vadala and Frank Mantooth.
