Summer Band to Host Concerts on June 16 and June 30

The Elmhurst University Band playing an outdoor concert in front of the Gates of Knowledge for an audience.The Elmhurst University Summer Band will host two concerts on campus this month, one featuring summer favorites, the other offering patriotic music.

Both concerts are free and open to the public, so all are invited to celebrate a return to the outdoor sounds of summer.

On Wednesday, June 16, the Summer Band presents “Strike Up the Band—Music for a Summer Evening.” The concert will feature a program of summer hits, including music from popular movies and Broadway musicals, light classical music and marches. They’ll be sure to get your foot tapping!

On Wednesday, June 30, “Patriotic Pageant” is the perfect way to start getting into the spirit of the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The concert features a program of patriotic favorites, including music from movies and Broadway musicals, the music of American composers Leonard Bernstein, George M. Cohan and George Gershwin, and rousing Sousa marches. Christopher O’Hara, professor of trumpet at Elmhurst University, will be the guest artist.

Both concerts will begin at 7:00 p.m. The June 30 performance will take place inside Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel. Parking is available on campus or across the street at the Wilder Mansion.
