Nikki Romain believes that the arts are not just an expression—they are a catalyst for change, connection and hope.

As the executive director and co-founder of the nonprofit organization Artists ReEnvisioning Tomorrow Inc. (ART Inc.) in Peoria, Ill., Romain blends her passion for the arts with her dedication to community transformation.

Romain will talk about her work and vision when she presents “From Dream to Action: Building Communities That Inspire Change,” this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Intercultural Lecture at Elmhurst University.

ART Inc. offers a dynamic and inclusive environment for children, youth and adults to engage in the arts through programs in theatre, music, visual arts and STEAM activities. Romain has guided the organization from humble beginnings to a flourishing organization with a $1.3 million budget, creating sustainable growth and a legacy of impact.

Romain has experienced firsthand how the arts can serve as a powerful vehicle for healing and self-discovery. Before becoming a nonprofit leader, she worked in the entertainment industry as a singer, actor, writer, director and producer.

This year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Intercultural Lecture with Nikki Romain begins at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, in the Frick Center, Founders Lounge.
