The internationally acclaimed Elmhurst College Jazz Band has been invited to perform at the 36th Annual Chicago Jazz Festival on Saturday, August 30.

Under the direction of Grammy Award winner Doug Beach, the band will perform beginning at 1:55 p.m. in the Chicago Community Trust Young Jazz Lions Stage, on the rooftop of the Harris Theater, 205 E. Randolph St., Chicago. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

The performance will mark the second time the Elmhurst College Jazz Band has played at the Chicago Jazz Festival. In 2001, the Jazz Band took center stage when legendary vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater invited them to accompany her.

“It is always an honor to be invited to perform at this wonderful event,” said Doug Beach, director of jazz studies at Elmhurst College. “Not only is it one of Chicago’s signature summer events, it’s also recognized as one of the nation’s great jazz festivals.”

The Chicago Jazz Festival, produced by the Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events and programmed by the Jazz Institute of Chicago, is a favorite Labor Day weekend tradition that promotes awareness and appreciation for all forms of jazz through quality, live musical performances.

The Elmhurst College Jazz Band has performed in concerts and festivals around the world, and also hosts the annual Elmhurst College Jazz Festival, one of the oldest and best collegiate jazz festivals in the country. This past spring DownBeat magazine, the most respected jazz magazine in the world, named the Elmhurst College Jazz Band the Best Large Jazz Ensemble in its 37th Annual DownBeat Student Music Awards.
